A business model for providing over-the-top content (OTT).
Subscription video on demand (SVOD) is a service whereby one subscribesto a service to gain access to the provided video content. You pay a fixed (monthly) fee for unlimited viewing time. This is usually without advertising. The prime example is Netflix.
SVOD in the Netherlands
Netflix is the most popular service in the Netherlands. In 2016/Q3 almost a quarter of the Dutch households had a paid or trial subscription to this service(source: Telecompaper.com). RTL’s SVOD service Videoland is expanding its offer and entered into a partnership with Viacom for the MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon programming in October 2016. Play by KPN, T-Mobile’s KNIPPR and NLZiet are also examples of SVOD services offering content to the Dutch market.
88% of the Dutch used at least one video steaming service at the end of 2015 (source: Telecompaper.com). Especially young people watch more videos online.
